Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan arrived in Kyiv on Monday, October 26, leading a high-level delegation that includes three cabinet ministers. The visit marks the next step in a series of bilateral engagements focused on regional stability and economic integration.
Joining Tofan in the Ukrainian capital were Vladimir Bolea, the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development; Anatolie Nosatîi, the Minister of Defence; and Dorin Junghietu, the Minister of Energy. Their presence signals that the agenda extends beyond routine diplomatic pleasantries to address specific operational and strategic needs.
The Moldovan government stated that the prime ministers will discuss the strengthening of bilateral relations, the development of economic and trade cooperation, regional security, and both countries' path towards the EU. Tofan is also scheduled to take part in the Kyiv International Economic Forum alongside Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi. The event will focus on investment opportunities and the development of economic cooperation.
This trip follows a meeting on October 14 between Tofan and Ukrainian Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal. At that time, the two leaders discussed shared challenges in the energy sector, preparations for winter, and the development of bilateral cooperation. Tofan had previously indicated on October 12 that he was considering purchasing natural gas from Ukraine for Moldova's needs and intended to finalize those terms during this visit.
The delegation also aims to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada. Moldovan President Maia Sandu has recently stated that her country is ready to accept a new influx of refugees from Ukraine should people begin leaving due to the severe humanitarian situation. The current visit serves as a direct follow-up to those earlier communications.
