Kherson Ceasefire: Humanitarian Pause Begins in Oleshky

A ceasefire took effect at 03:00 Kyiv time on Tuesday, 27 October, in the area surrounding Oleshky, a town in Kherson Oblast currently under Russian occupation. Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine’s Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, announced the start of the pause in hostilities via Telegram.

The halt in fighting was coordinated to facilitate a humanitarian mission. Lubinets stated that the ceasefire regime applies to designated areas and aligns with agreements reached between Ukrainian and Russian negotiating team leaders. He noted that Russia’s Human Rights Commissioner, Yana Lantratova, is involved in the joint operation.

The Russian Defence Ministry confirmed the arrangement, describing it as a “silence regime” introduced by the Russian Armed Forces on the Kherson front. The ministry specified that the cessation of fire began at 04:00 Moscow time on 27 October 2026 in preparation for the humanitarian operation near the settlement.

US First Lady Melania Trump mediated and coordinated the truce, according to the White House. The administration stated that Trump secured the agreement to address a humanitarian disaster unfolding in the occupied town. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov also confirmed Russia’s agreement to the ceasefire to allow the mission to proceed.

Lubinets emphasized that the primary goal is the safety of civilians in Oleshky. He indicated that the parties are adhering to the established agreements. The Ukrainian and Russian General Staffs had previously announced that the ceasefire would cover the night of 27 October to permit the aid operation.

The planned humanitarian operation in Oleshky is scheduled for 29 October. Lubinets said he would continue to inform the public about the process, prioritizing compliance with the agreed arrangements. The local truce remains in effect while preparations for the specific mission on the 29th continue.
